BIUCAC was established to make a change by providing opportunities for students to develop commercial awareness. With students from Russell Group universities dominating the legal market by 82%, we aim to level the playing field and showcase outstanding legal talent, which may have been overlooked by City law firms.
This will create a more diverse educational background within the legal industry. Non-Russel group students have the skill, perseverance and commercial awareness to be successful in City law firms; BIUCAC is simply providing a platform for students to showcase their talent.
In 2020, BIUCAC had over 4100 students sign-ups from 40 non-Russel group universities. This made BIUCAC the largest commercial awareness competition for law students in the United Kingdom - an amazing achievement in our inaugural year.
In round four, approximately 80 partners and law academics acted as judges.
In the final round, 24 partners from some of the leading law firms in the world acted as judges. This was a unique opportunity for students, as they made presentations to, and answered questions directly from the partners.
The 12 law student winners of BIUCAC 2020 won some amazing prizes and all students who competed in the competition were able to develop their Legal Commercial Awareness in an engaging and practical way - gaining valuable skills that will assist them in increasing their chances of succeeding in interviews and assessment centres.
